The Institute of Youth Studies (IYS)
IYS at Tangaza University College in Nairobi is a pioneering initiative at the tertiary level rooted in the Salesian charism. Established in 2003 jointly be the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), it was envisioned as a space to empower those working with young people through education and practical skills in youth ministry.
Guided by the Salesian educational philosophy, the academic programmes of IYS (in Youth Ministry, Child and Youth Studies, and Counselling Psychology) focus on critical thinking, ethical discernment, and spiritual growth. Its programmes integrate learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be - core pillars for global citizenship and sustainable development.
