Commission for Economy and Administration
The Commission for Economy and Administration in the Province plays a critical role in the financial stewardship and administrative functioning of the Salesian mission. This commission is responsible for managing the resources of the province in a transparent, sustainable, and ethical manner, ensuring that all financial activities align with the Salesian charism of service to the young, particularly those in need.
At the core of this function is the role of the Economer. The Economer ensures that the province’s financial resources are managed effectively, overseeing the budgeting, accounting, and reporting processes. This includes careful monitoring of income and expenditure, particularly with respect to the various educational, social, and pastoral works conducted across Kenya. The Economer also coordinates the fundraising efforts for the different Salesian projects, ensuring the alignment of donor funds with the mission’s priorities.
In Kenya, the Don Bosco Development Outreach Network (DBDON), and the Don Bosco Mission Office in Nairobi operate under the office of the Economer. DBDON is responsible seeking and coordinating the funded projects carried out in the Salesian institutions. The Don Bosco Mission Office ensures that Don Bosco’s commitment to youth at risk, such as street children and those from pastoralist and refugee backgrounds, is supported by sound financial management and long-term sustainability.
The Commission made up the Economer, Provincial Youth Ministry Delegate, the Executive Director of DBDON, and the Director of Don Bosco Missions, Nairobi, together with other expert members review the annual budget of the Salesian communities, plan the finances of the Provincial Office, and oversee the new developments including building projects.
