Don Bosco Meru
Is the Salesians’ latest initiative in Kenya, launched in 2024 following the donation of a parcel of land in the Giantune area of Imenti North Subcounty, Meru Diocese. Based on a comprehensive educative-pastoral needs assessment, initial plans include non-formal youth training initiatives such as a computer training facility and an avocado tree distribution program for youth, fostering cooperative formation. The initiative integrates environmental stewardship, tackling soil erosion and promoting carbon capture in line with the Salesian principle of integral ecology.
Further studies on street children in Meru may lead to the establishment of a rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration program for at-risk children. Meanwhile, with the consent of the Bishop and Parish Priest, the Salesians will assist in pastoral duties at St. Charles Lwanga Church in Giantune. This ministry underscores the Salesians’ commitment to empowering marginalized communities through education, social intervention, and spiritual care.
