On January 26, 2025, the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, Upperhill in Nairobi was officially declared a designated church for pilgrimages, especially for youth, during the Jubilee Year of Hope. This momentous announcement was made by Archbishop Philip Anyolo of Nairobi during a Eucharistic celebration attended by over 4,000 faithful.
The event, held in anticipation of the Feast of Don Bosco, coincided with the parish’s Family Day, organized by the youth of the parish of Mary Help of Christians. In his homily, Archbishop Anyolo praised the energy and faith of the young people and emphasized the importance of the Shrine as a spiritual refuge for those seeking renewal and hope. The presence of Don Bosco’s relic inside the church further elevates its significance as a place of pilgrimage.
A key highlight of the celebration was the opening of the Holy Door of Hope at the Shrine, symbolizing a gateway to grace and transformation. The Archbishop blessed the Jubilee Cross and invited the congregation to pass through the Holy Door, offering a plenary indulgence to those who met the spiritual requirements.
To know that you are young is sufficient reason for me to care for your welfare. I care for you, because you have in your hearts the treasure of virtue.
